Lady Gaga to Launch ‘Born This Way Foundation’
‘Born This Way Foundation’ will focus on youth empowerment.
Mother Monster, Lady Gaga has announced plans to launch a charity foundation named after her second album and its title track, the Born This Way Foundation. The non-profit’s motto is “empowering youth, inspiring beauty.” BTWF will be run by the Grammy award winning singer and her mother, Cynthia Germanotta. The foundation will be in partnership with the John D. and Catherine T. Mac Arthur Foundation, the California Endowment and the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University.
According to Ladygaga.com, the foundation will focus on programs which face the issues of “self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development.” Gaga, who has close to 60 million followers between Facebook and Twitter, plans to use social media as a means of connecting to the youth, spreading her positive message and carrying out the mission of her foundation.
Lady Gaga was inspired to start BTWF by the suicide of a bullied fan. Jamey Rodemeyer, an openly gay 14-year-old from Buffalo, New York tweeted a suicide note directed to his idol “@ladygaga bye mother monster thank you for all you have done, paws up forever.”
The foundation which is scheduled to be launched in the 2012 has the following poem on its website, bornthiswayfoundation.org which beautifuly sums up its mission statement.
“This way, towards beauty
Where youth are empowered
This way, towards acceptance
Where humanity is embraced
This way, towards love
Where individuality is encouraged.”
Beyonce’s Baby Bump is the Star of the VMA’s, While Gaga is a Drag in Drag
Beyonce and her baby bump steal the show at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Beyonce and Jay-Z are having a baby! The singer, who is usually clad in an extremely revealing bodysuit on stage, appeared last night completely covered in a tux with a purple sequined jacket. The expected breakaway tux and revealing barely-there undergarment never materialized, yet upon finishing her song – shockingly clothed, she opened up her sequined jacket to reveal her well-rounded baby bump! She and Jay-Z were absolutely beaming! It was a moment definitely going down in VMA history. Congratulations to them both.
The shock queen Lady Gaga opened the show in drag as her alter-ego Jo Calderone - a greasy haired and obnoxious drag king with kinky side burns and a filthy tee. Unfortunately she maintained this Andrew Dice Clay knockoff persona throughout the show. The creepy Gaga-man even introduced Britney Spears by admitting to masturbating to her pictures (ewww Calderone-really?), then offered up a kiss while she accepted her Moonman. Spears, promptly pushed Gaga away saying, “I did that already.” I love a good drag show, but this was more creepy than entertaining, though she did make a convincing man. The first close up of the show, when Gaga appeared onstage was of Justin Bieber and boy did he look confused! I’m sure Selena explained it to him later.
Other highlights of the night include Bieber, arriving at the preshow with his tiny little snake which he admitted in front of millions, was named Johnson. Jay-Z and Kanye were rushed on stage by a mystery person who was then tackled by security. Chris Brown did a darn good Peter Pan impersonation. Lil Wayne wore Steven Tyler’s cheetah print skinny jeans around his knees and not much else. Nicki Minaj borrowed Rainbow Bright’s stylist for the night who was obviously tripping on acid and Katy Perry’s stylist thought it was a brilliant idea for her to have a large block of cheese imbedded in her skull. All-in-all it was another splendid evening at the VMA’s.
MTV VMA Performances by Adele, Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Chris Brown, Lady Gaga and More
Lady Gaga, the opening act of MTV VMA’s.
The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, Sunday August 28 at 9/8 central. The awards show has become a platform for music industry A-listers to let their freak flags fly. Some of the more shocking moments in VMA history include Kanye’s on-air diss of Taylor Swift, the Britney, Christina and Madonna kiss (check out the video evidence below), Madonna’s original “Like a Virgin” number or Britney’s “I’m A Slave 4 U” dance with a live snake.
The reigning queen of shock Lady Gaga herself, will be opening the show this year. The Lady, who won a VMA for Best New Artist in 2009, arrived at last year’s event in her infamous raw meat dress and is sure to try to out-shock last year’s stunt.
